West Pannon Region

The West Pannon Region is bordered by Austria to the west, but it also shares borders with Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia. It’s population is about 1 million people. The region lies in a strategic position: 60% of Hungary’s border traffic comes through our region. It is also situated on the traditional northern-southern commercial lines, and the region puts an emphasis on further developing this important logistic potential.

Geographically it is varied, with plains in the North-West, and dominated by hills in the rest of the region. The region has abundant natural treasures, particularly in thermal waters.
West Pannon Region

The regions economy is mainly based on the industry, the region is more industrialized than any other in the country. Thanks to the highly qualified human potential, the level of foreign investment is significantly high in the region. The regions tourist potential is also very promising with the presence of thermal waters, a pleasant landscape, rich cultural and natural resources. There is work to be done however in the R&D area: the R&D effort is only 0,39 of the GDP. It is a good sign, that the region lies in 2 major innovation axes, the Bavaria-Prague-Vienna-Bratislava-Gyõr-Budapest, and the Venice-Triest-Ljubljana-Budapest.
